Long Nguyen // Shoebox Letters
Co-produced by: Mosaic and Long Nguyen
Release Date: August, 2009
Mosaic adds Shoebox Letters to his catalog of work - an acoustic folk/rock album recorded, mixed and produced with Mosaic's trademark touches for up-and-coming singer/songwriter Long Nguyen.
As a young artist who has played some of Los Angeles' hottest venues - including the Grand Star Jazz Club, 14 Below, Tangier and the Fillmore Lounge - Nguyen sought Mosaic's direction to lend a unique edge to a debut studio album that will establish him as a musician to watch.
Recording work for Shoebox Letters began in October of 2008 at Clear Lake Audio in Burbank, CA. When all was sung and done, what came of the collaboration were 10 tracks written and performed by Nguyen, and polished with a richly mellow, smooth, and undeniably cool sound by Mosaic.
"Listeners introduced to Nguyen through this first album will find that his sound bears a quality most similar to Damien Rice's," describes Mosaic, whose prior work has tended towards rock, pop and electronica. Shoebox Letters is, therefore, a clear demonstration of Mosaic's growing versatility.

PRODUCER MOSAIC EXPANDS HIS BODY OF WORK IN 2009, STARTING WITH THE RELEASE OF LONG NGUYEN'S SHOEBOX LETTERS
MAY 2009, LOS ANGELES, Calif. - With months to go before the year's close, 2009 has already proven prolific for producer Glenn Suravech, a.k.a. Mosaic, who adds Shoebox Letters to his catalog of work - an acoustic folk/rock album recorded, mixed and produced with Mosaic's trademark touches for up-and-coming singer/songwriter Long Nguyen. As a young artist who has played some of Los Angeles' hottest venues - including the Grand Star Jazz Club, 14 Below, Tangier and the Fillmore Lounge - Nguyen sought Mosaic's talents to lend a unique edge to a debut studio album that will establish him as a musician to watch.
Recording work for Shoebox Letters began in October of 2008 at Clear Lake Audio in Burbank, California.
Among the songs on Shoebox Letters, "Almost (a Waltz)" and "Around the Bend" are standouts - the former being a sweet yet powerful hope-filled ballad and the latter being a lilting, wistful acoustic piece about love. Intrigued music fans will soon be able to hear these and other tracks performed by Nguyen and produced by Mosaic at www.longnguyenmusic.com.
In addition to his work on Shoebox Letters, a number of other exciting collaborations have marked what is shaping up to be a landmark year for the independent producer. Since January, Mosaic has recorded and mixed tracks for Los Angeles-based musicians Simon, DJ James, Rich Sheldon, Boo Boo Kitty, TAIKOPROJECT (an ensemble of America's premiere taiko drummers) and Ethan Browne - son of American rock legend Jackson Browne.
On the writing and mixing front, Mosaic has also produced another track of his own entitled "I Don't Believe You," plus two highly infectious mash-ups: Gertie Meza vs. Stone Temple Pilots and MIA vs. Jimmy Eat World. "I Don't Believe You" is a raw pop rock anthem featuring lyrics suffused with righteous indignation, while "Interstate Picture Screen" and "Jimmy Eat MIA" are up-tempo and surprising experiments in hybridized music.
Over recent years, Mosaic has been releasing and licensing music through Mosaic Sound Recordings (MSR). Those familiar with his unique approach to music know that his inimitable sound springs from his diverse experiences in the industry, which range from studying and working with influential engineers like Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2), Ted Greenberg (Cypruss Hill, The Roots, Ben Harper) and Jim Mitchell (Guns N' Roses, Billy Bob Thornton, Warren Zevon), as well as producer Derek Nakamoto (Keiko Matsui). Additionally, he regularly sits in as a guitarist with the celebrated Los Angeles-based pop band, Visiting Violette.
Mosaic released his debut album in 2007, entitled Through the Eyes of a Woman, featuring 10 original tracks recorded with independent artists/musicians across the nation. The album is appropriately a cross-genre work that reflects the versatility of his beats, motifs and instrumentation. Mosaic sharpened the cutting edge with every track he laid down for this acclaimed album.
In September 2008, he followed up this release with a new album of work entitled Liberator, which features 11 infectious tracks performed by 10 promising young musicians. Liberator represented both an evolution and a distillation of Mosaic's trademark sound, boasting provocative tracks that reflected a greater rock influence. The album solidified Mosaic's position as an innovator in the world of independent music.
In coming months, Mosaic will be working with pop rock artist Tristin Matsunaga, to engineer the audio for videos released by her Chicago-based image consulting agency, tristinstyling, as well as kicking off preproduction on a highly anticipated original album recording with celebrated Bay Area singer/songwriter Alice Tong.
Until then, Mosaic's followers have plenty of fresh material to keep them happy . . . and ever-hungry for more.
